How can I further troubleshoot this to determine the cause? Many modern routers will not allow older WPA only devices to connect. If the iMac has wireless, your wifi router needs to be able to authenticate over WPA, not just WPA2. My iMac is connected through Ethernet and can browse the web. The Mac likely has no idea that the switch is gigabit capable. I've tried using tcpdump to monitor the cscotun0 interface (added by the Cisco VPN client) but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for-I do see activity when requesting a URL in Safari. It is a function of the switch, not the Mac. In fact, right before bed, instead of canceling the URL request in Safari, I let it sit all night out of curiosity and this morning it was still trying to contact the site. I've also tried Firefox and Chrome and experienced the same hanging. It is equipped with auto failover so if your iMac keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi, it routes all the data through the wired Ethernet and the cellular connection (if available) until the Wi-Fi connection is restored. Connected wirelessly to DSL modem/router Speedify runs in the background of your iMac proactively monitoring the quality of your connections.
